How to Use This Website
The BYTE@HAND's website is a resource for members and non-members alike. Using this site you can find out more about the company and our products. Our news, games, patches, documentation and extracts from the company info is here to get.
Finding What You Want
This website has been designed to make it as easy as possible to find what you want. The content is divided into sections that each contains related information, and links are provided wherever possible to guide you to further information that may be useful. There are a number of ways of finding the information you want, which are described below. If you don't find what you want straight away, try using a different option to search the site.
Navigation Bar and Links
Every 'page' on the website has a 'navigation bar' on the left-hand side underneath the BYTE@HAND logo. Clicking on any 'button' in this navigation bar will take you to a page which describes what else is included in that section. You can then go to another page by using the links that appear in the navigation bar or the links within the text itself.

Don't be concerned if the links in the navigation bar disappear: this can happen when you use the links in the text to change pages. And don't worry if the page color changes. We provide links between pages in different sections when we think you might find them useful, and each section has its own color scheme which can be helpful for our visitors.

In addition to the navigation bar there are links to all the sections plus links to a number of other popular pages at the top of every page.
You Are Here
As with most websites the pages on the BYTE@HAND website are organized 'hierarchically': it's easiest to think them as branching out like an upside-down tree shape (much like a family tree), with the Home page linked to several Section introduction pages, and each of those in turn linked to one or more other pages. At any time you can see where you are in this pattern by looking at the right of the BYTE@HAND logo. There you will see three last levels of the web site hierarchy; you can click on any of the page names in this tree to move back to that page. Also information about where you are is displayed in page title.
Search
On every page in the site you will see a Quick Search box right in the navigation bar. Enter one or more words in this box, click on the Go button and a page will appear with a list of places on the website that include all of the words that you have entered. To reduce the number of results add extra words to your search.
Sitemap
On every page there is a link to our sitemap. This is a list of all the pages on the site, organized under the relevant section names. It's simply another way of showing a hierarchically organized website: if a page name is indented compared to the one above it then it is considered to be at a level below that page - it is a 'child' of that page. You can click on any page name shown on the sitemap to go to that page.
Finding Related Information
On every page some words or phrases will be underlined: usually these link to other pages on the BYTE@HAND website that contain more about that subject, although sometimes we link to external websites where we consider their information to be useful. And occasionally an underlined link will bring up an email window to allow you to send a message or request to a specific person in the union.
Accessibility
The BYTE@HAND's website is designed to be accessible to as many people as possible, no matter what technology they use to access the information contained on websites and the Internet. We have worked closely with a specialist website design agency and followed World Wide Web Consortium (W3C) and Royal National Institute for the Blind (RNIB) guidelines to make it possible for blind, partially sighted and other visually impaired users to read the content.
PDFs
Some of the information on this website, such as speeches and papers, is provided as PDF files. You will need extra software on your computer to read these, but the good news is that this software is free. To find out more about reading PDFs, including help for those using alternative browsers and links to let you download the necessary software, check the relevant page on this website which you can always access easily via a link on the website's home page.
Website Highlights
New additions or changes to the website are described under the News in Company section.
